For this pilot project lead project partners Mastercard Foundation, the Near North Mobile Media Lab and Thinking Rock Community Arts brought a series of free week-long passive Virtual Reality 360 filmmaking workshops to communities in Nunavut and across Northeastern and Northwestern Ontario. This 360 Filmmaking tour aimed to facilitate co-learning, intergenerational knowledge-sharing, connections between communities and artists, creating and sharing art within community and beyond, creating Indigenous youth-led media, and sharing place-based experiences. Project partners, artists and technicians aimed to work reciprocally with participating partner communities.
Assets produced throughout the project are shared and published on this website with communities' consent. Project artists and technicians toured to eight communities in Nunavut as well as Northeastern and Northwestern Ontario to create original VR content and share technical expertise with Indigenous youth. Assets produced throughout the project are shared and published on this website with communities' consent. We are thankful for the hospitality, participation and partnership of the communities we visited, including Atikameksheng Anishnawbek, Biigtigong Nishnaabeg (Pic River First Nation), Garden River First Nation, Igloolik, Iqaluit, Sioux Lookout, Thunder Bay and Wikwemikong Unceded Territory.
